Meera burst into the room.
'So, what happened?' she asked.
We have been best friends since we were little. We went to the same school, stayed together in the same city while we went to different colleges. And now we work in the same city too.
When I didn't say anything, she sighed and sat down beside me on the bed.
'Do you want to talk about it?'
'Why do I pick the wrong guys?'. She knew better than to answer that one.
'He canceled the trip. Something came up at work, apparently. Like I am gonna believe that.'
'What are you going to do?' she prodded.
'I should leave him, shouldn't I?'
'I can't tell you what to do, Sparsha. You know that.'
We both laughed. Meera loved telling people what to do.
'Yes, I think you should break up with that idiot who doesn't value the gorgeous, smart person that you are. Now get your ass off that bed and get dressed.'
'That's more like it' I said, 'Where are we going?'
Rakesh has booked us a table at 'Le Cirque'.
'No waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay'
'Yes. Now will you please get dressed?'
Meera smiled to herself as she sat down. Rakesh was a wonderful guy, and he knew how much Sparsha meant to me. When he found out I was worried about Sparsha's date that day, he immediately thought of something that would make her feel better. She thought being in love meant you had to choose one guy over people you have loved always. He simply showed that it didn't have to be that way.
I walked out of our apartment, and waved at Rakesh. I fought to get that lump down my throat, as I realized something.
I cannot imagine life without her.
